Where to work in Cascais

In collaboration with Visit Cascais, I’ve previously written a long weekend destination guide for remote workers. Where I talk a bit more about the town and different things to see and do - including an actual itinerary that I would follow for people looking for a long weekend adventure.

But I wanted to dedicate a bit of space to the other places that I remote worked from in between as well. Cascais was never super high up my list, but I had seen digital nomad groups talking about it and I was looking for somewhere slightly more affordable to stay for a conference in Lisbon anyway, so I thought I would stay a little longer and see what the town had to offer. And I was far from disappointed. So much so I extended my stay a couple of times so I could enjoy the short walk to the ocean and the friendly atmosphere in the town.

Luna House Hub

Named after the cute dog wandering around, I had the opportunity to stay for the weekend, but I would also recommend trying a cowork pass for the day here. This is actually what I originally did off a recommendation from a creator friend and it was so worth it for the chilled but intentional vibes. The wifi is great and there is always coffee, but they also have a pool, shared spaces and community activities to get involved in as well (whether you’re actually staying or not).

Fábrica Coffee Roasters

Every so often, I crave a really well done flat white coffee with oat milk (my old go-to in London) and this is what this cafe provided. Amazing coffee and a bit more of a hipster vibe out of the main areas of the town that tourists tend to frequent, so I never felt disturbed. You could also choose between indoor or outdoor seating.

Nicolau

Truthfully, I visited Nicolau because it seemed a popular spot on Instagram, but the wifi situation was also great in there as well. A little more on the pricier side, I would recommend getting here a little earlier than typical brunch hours if you want to get a seat for more than two people. The coffee and food is amazing, so naturally it attracts visitors and locals alike.

House of Wonders

So there wasn’t public wifi when I visited, but if you’re like me and you have a decent hotspot (which I recommend having regardless), then this restaurant is a good option to start the day in. A vegetarian restaurant, this a great place to order fresh dishes (and check out the kitchen some of the juices are prepared in on your way up to the terrace) and get great views of the town.

Staying in Cascais

For most of my visit, I stayed in a private room at the Change The World Hostel in Monte Estoril (about a twenty-thirty minute walk from Cascais Old Town. And then I had the opportunity to stay at Luna House for a long weekend - and this is where I would personally book in the future as a great step into the remote worker life in Cascais. Not only is it a comfier space with all of the amenities you need (including a cowork space and breakfast each day) but there is also a ready and waiting likeminded community you can also connect with. Which for me, is a big part of what makes a workation a success.

Although I love Lisbon (I’ll link my blog post with remote work recs here), Cascais and other towns along the Silver Coast have gone higher up the list. The pace of life is slower, but honestly that to me is more Portugal-like, being allowed to really take in what you’re doing and appreciate the amazing-ness around you. Which is a big part of why I chose the remote life in the first place.

There are a couple of digital nomad, expat and remote worker groups you can join, and I try to do so as much as possible because connecting with people in person made the experience that much more memorable. From gelatos at Santinis to caipirinhas on one of the many beaches, Cascais is great place not only to work from but to connect with community. And I can’t wait to go back again soon!

Have you been to the Silver Coast?
